NOTICE – Engine Hero – Terms and Conditions
Kindly note that all engines and parts thereto concerned has been previously used and although all care is taken in this regard to ensure that the condition of each item is of a serviceable nature it may contain defects which may be latent and / or patent in nature.
Customer’s attention is brought the Consumer Protection Act, Act 68 of 2008, specifically Sections 49, 55, and 55(6)

Section 55
“Consumer’s rights to safe, good quality goods”, which indicates as follows:
(6) Subsection (2)(a) and (b) do not apply to a transaction if the consumer—
- has been expressly informed that particular goods were offered in a specific condition; and
- has expressly agreed to accept the goods in that condition, or knowingly acted in a manner consistent with accepting the goods in that condition.
Accordingly, customers are expressly informed that the particular goods are offered in a specific condition, and by confirming that they’ve expressly been informed that the goods concerned were offered in a specific condition and agree to accept the goods in that condition Section 55 (2)(a) and (b) shall not apply.
Customer’s attention is further drawn to the terms and conditions as contained hereunder which imposes an obligation on the consumer to be adhered to and which obligations the consumer confirm that should it not be adhered to the consumer explicitly indemnifies the supplier with regard to risk or damage, as further contained herein.
- Engine Hero requires that all engines are fitted within 12 days and brought back to Engine Hero fitted and fully functional for a fitment inspection, during which inspection “Engine Hero” will conduct a full fitment inspection to check if all service parts have been fitted as per the terms and conditions before signing the warranty off.
- It is the customer’s duty to ensure that the vehicle comes back for a fitment inspection.
- Engine Hero also requires that all engines & gearbox has to be fitted by a RMI registered workshop.
- Petrol Engines – 90 Day Warranty from date of Invoice
- Diesel Engines – 30 Day Warranty from date of Invoice
- Performance & Turbocharged Engines – 7 Day Start-Up Warranty from date of Invoice
- Manual Gearboxes – 30 Day Warranty from date of Invoice
- Automatic Gearboxes – 30 Day Warranty from date of Invoice
Terms and Conditions
Engines
- All petrol engines bought from Engine Hero have to be fitted by a workshop that is registered by RMI.
- Engine Hero requires that all engines are fitted within 12 days and brought back to Engine Hero fitted and fully functional for a fitment inspection of the following replaced items: all oil seals, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, all belts including cambelt, spark plugs, thermostat, water pump and radiators are to be cleaned by a recognised radiator specialist shop
- Please note that any damage caused to the Engine by a second hand water pump will Null and Void the Warranty of the Engine as Water Pumps have to be replaced with a new water pump – not negotiable.
- Please note that any damage caused to the Engine by form of a blocked or unflushed radiator will Null and Void the Warranty of the Engine as all Radiators have to be serviced or replaced if needed by a recognised Radiator Specialist.
- The working order of the water temp gauge, oil pressure light and cooling fan are the duties of the customer.
- It’s the customers duty to ensure that the sump has no cracks or dents before fitment as Engine Hero will not be held liable for damage to engine due to oil starvation caused by a dented sump or the removal of the engine to repair a cracked sump.
- Engine Hero does not warranty any sump as these engines are moved around via forklift, most of the sumps have to be replaced with the customer’s original sump and that is the duty of the customer.
- It’s the customers duty to ensure that when the import engines intakes are removed that they are replaced with a clean intake, that has been blown clean with air and inspected for any debris of the old engine.
- Engine Hero’s warranty does not cover any External/Auxiliary or Electrical Parts.
- It is the customer’s duty to inspect the engine before signing or taking delivery of the engine as Engine Hero will not be able to exchange any external/auxiliary parts once the customer has accepted delivery. External/Auxiliary parts are not limited to but includes – turbocharger, alternator, starter, power steering pump, distributors, clutch & flywheel, injectors, solenoids, pulleys, tappet covers, sump covers, filter housings, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, crank sensors, knock sensors, throttle position sensors, all other sensors, plug leads & distributor caps.
- Please inspect your engine prior to the payment and acceptance of the engine as the engines that we sell are second hand items and the customer has to accept that any second hand engine does have a risk factor.
Diesel Engines
- All diesel Engines have a 30 Day warranty from date of invoice and must be fitted by a RMI registered workshop.
- It is the customers responsibility to have the injectors tested and pump timing calibrated at their own expense.
- Engine Hero requires that all engines are fitted within 12 and brought back to Engine Hero fitted and fully functional for a fitment inspection of the following replaced items: all oil seals, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, all belts including cambelt, spark plugs, thermostat and radiators are to be cleaned by a recognised radiator specialist shop

Gearboxes
- Engine Hero does not warranty any gearboxes being used in modification or performance/motorsport vehicles: the warranty will automatically be null and void on that gearbox.
- It’s the customer’s duty to ensure that the vehicle’s propshaft is correctly balanced if it is a rear wheel drive vehicle, because as a broken or damaged extension housing will not be covered by our warranty.
- It’s the customer’s duty to fit a new spigot shaft bearing.
- The gearbox oil has to be replaced with new oil, only use the oil specified by the manufacturer, as damage caused by incorrect oil use will not be covered by our warranty.
- Engine Hero will not cover any warranty if the gearbox comes back with: broken gears or if the gearbox is burnt due to low oil or not fitting new oil.
- All gearbox oil seals need to be replaced with new seals before installation of the gearboxes.
- All gearboxes need to be fitted with new or good condition gearbox mountings, this is the customer’s duty.
- Please inspect your gearbox prior to the payment and acceptance of the gearbox as the gearboxes that we sell are second hand items and the customer has to accept that any second hand gearbox does have a risk factor.
Refunds & Liability
- Engine Hero is not liable for any labour charges, towing costs, freight charges, vehicle hire, downtime or loss of income due to the failure of a product. Items are to be returned in the same condition as they were received, this means every nut and bolt will be in the same place as it was when it left the premises of Engine Hero – meaning; complete.
- All claims will be subject to a full inspection of the item being returned and only after the engine or gearbox has been diagnosed to determine if it was faulty engine/gearbox or customer negligence will the refund be processed within 72 hours.
- Customers may be charged up to a 20% handling fee for goods correctly supplied.
- Any purchases with a Debit or Credit Card that needs to be refunded will carry an additional 3.5% service fee on the full sale amount to cover bank fees incurred by Engine Hero during the sale of the item.
Null and Void of Warranty
- If we have identified during our inspection that the engine has been dismantled, stripped, modified, overheated, over revved or misused.
- If the vehicle is not returned to Engine Hero for inspection within 12 days of purchase date.
